One thing I have been loving lately is simply listening. Not just to others tell their stories, but to what is around me outside. I have to choose to remain in one spot with my ankle resting. My kids keep telling me that I do too much. My chiropractor says the exact same. So, maybe it would be good if this stubborn lady listened!? So, here I am typing out the monthly message (yes, resting my ankle) to share some of my favourite listening moments through podcasts.

Annie F. Downs recently sat down with Lauren Akins and from there you will be able to listen in on her own podcast too! I love to learn from others and see how they have navigated their own journey. Amazing podcast! Here is Lauren’s podcast This is part of her story! Adoption is the theme and wow!!! You will love it and then get her book. Really amazing to hear how God works. Another great listen is the She Reads Truth Podcast the hosts meet and chat with Kristie Anyabwile. I have yet to read any of her books, but now that I am more familiar with her I plan to add to my bookshelf. Here’ the best part, they have a podcast from last year on Psalm 119. You know that this Psalm is special to me! So listen in to their conversation on this amazing prayer-the longest chapter of the Bible!! Lastly, here is an article by Paul Martin from TGC called The Poison of Suspicion in the Life of the Church. A great response we all need to hear that is surrounded in love.

Clothing for the summer!

So, bathing suit season is upon us and that means shopping for the perfect fit. How do we possibly accomplish this during a lockdown? There are no changerooms online! I have found that Land’s End has been the winner so far. I found a few items that actually worked and did not have to return anything. It is a pet peeve of mind to make a return EVER! Books I am reading

We just finished reading Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh. I love Mrs. Frisby! She is one determined mouse! Her love for her littles leads her on a wild adventure that almost takes her life. I loved reading this out loud. Often when reading it out loud I become more engrossed in a book, it happened again! After reading we connected and signed up with LitWits, a sister duo that loves literature and sharing ideas with others! This was a workshop based on the book and Katie had a lot of fun. They sent printables and a list of items needed for the time together. The only drawback was that being in Canada meant they could not send the box, we had to create our own. But it was still fun! I have just started, Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund and I am truly loving his style of writing and the message of how gentle and loving Christ is. I am making this book a priority this weekend! Pencil in hand with notes to take!

Also, I received my order for Marina Hoffman’s latest Bible study, Women in the Bible Small Group Bible Study. I am loving her insightful reflections, questions and research into each woman. The format is excellent and makes for guided study welcoming. She includes scripture and beside it are a variety of questions to lead you toward a deeper understanding. I am thankful for this study to add to my bookshelf. Each one of the women she highlights has a story to tell and Marina allows us to follow each one and after finishing each chapter have a wealth of new knowledge.

Sally’s Baking Addiction – The Best Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies. I made these and basically the comments were, “Why have you not made these before?” Let’s just say there were none left! If you are into making bread, I found a recipe by The Pioneer Woman – Sandwich Bread. It is amazing! Super easy and delicious – just add butter and enjoy!

 

Homeschooling Curriculum

Page a day math has been a great learning tool here. Lots of repetitive multiplication with cute graphics. You can do one page or more. Instead of printing my own this has been great! Lots more on the site too. This spelling program: A Reason for Spelling has worked really well. has been one curriculum I have been using with my youngest (10) and it has been great, I highly recommend it.
