Theme of my song
Sandee Macgregor / November 19, 2020
Your decrees are the theme of my song
wherever I lodge (Psalm 119:54).
Through the 176 verses of Psalm 119 I have found truth upon truth. In Psalm 119:54 the phrase theme of my song has been sitting on me for weeks, in a good, convicting kind of way. There is a theme to everything from movies, books, music and the like. What I have been mulling over in my mind is this question; what is the theme of my song? In short, the answer is often me. The ‘me‘ theme is not uncommon. I am the theme of my song over and over again. I may even have lyrics and a catchy tune! I can recall many times when the theme for my song would be something about sleep deprivation. Young moms understand this well. My song would be about the much desired sleep I was not getting and the hope for more. The verse actually does not have the word me in it, shocking! It really says, “Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge.” Decree comes across as quite a formal word. It does not have to intimidate. What is God saying to us through his chosen words? Are the words we read in the Bible the theme of our song, the theme of our life. Is the fruit of the spirit evident,
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law” (Galations 5:22-23 ESV). When God is the theme of our song, wherever we ‘lodge’ he will enable us as we press into him, we just can’t do anything on our own strength,
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
May the the theme of my song be a sweet melody unto the Lord
Musicians and songwriters create beautiful lyrics and melodies that guide us into worship and allow Christ to be the theme of our song. Thy Word (based on Psalm 119:105) is one of those songs that for many years has ushered me toward a theme that includes the creator of the universe and I am thankful.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Psalm 119:105).

Mothers and daughters, this is for you to connect together and let the theme of your song be all about Jesus!
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
