Just Enough Light
Sandee Macgregor / January 13, 2021
Perhaps this title of a book is one of my most favourite! Why? It is completely sincere and obvious.
Just Enough Light For The Step I’m On by Stormie Omartian.
Doesn’t it just say something so marvelous and so simplistic. Just enough light…
Years ago while at my moms place perusing her bookshelves, I picked up this book and could not put it down. It’s been a while since I read it, but her life story has resonated with me ever since in many ways. Stormie Omartian shares her life journey and along the way realizes that it was Jesus illuminating her path, even when it was eerily dark. Her story has very hard twists and turns. What God brought out of the unexpected circumstances, relationships and moments in her life were all preparing her for an incredible ministry. She has impacted me personally with many of her books, particularly The Power Of The Praying Parent. I encourage anyone interested in strengthening your prayer life to find one of her books and pray through the scriptures selected and the prayer that she eloquently unfolds at the end of each chapter. Stormie points people to the ultimate light found in Jesus.
As I think of my new year beginning, I look back over the past 12 days and see once again, God has given me just enough light for the step I am on. Today, for example (I could give so many) I was beginning to fret over the imminent surgery on my leg. Just today it was confirmed I will go in tomorrow early in the afternoon and was beginning to think about all of the things causing me anxiety or worry. Duncan calmly listened and reassured me, as he always does, that was the first light for my step. I clumsily left the bathroom into my current 24/7 living space to see a fresh cup of water with a slice of lemon, a grande bold coffee with cinnamon from Starbucks (thank you Samantha) and a get well card from my friend Sue. Not only did she give me a card but provided a lovely lasagna dinner with caesar salad and freshly baked cookies. The next bit of light for my step.
This is how God works. He gives you just what you need, not what I think I need. I don’t want surgery, but at the same time I do. I want to correct what is broken, but I don’t want the pain and recovery. Then God gave me the light for my step again, a date for surgery, in a hospital close to home. Covid has really messed up surgical procedures. The surgeon said they were down by 50%. When I first heard that I was concerned that I might be pushed back again, it’s already been almost 2 weeks. But he assured me that I was a priority so that made me feel better again another light.
I have many lights illuminating the shadows cast in my tough moments through emails, texts, meals, gifts, fresh coffee‘s, hugs, cozy movies on the bed the list goes on. I am thankful as I can see God‘s hand in every step.
I will always love this book title. My prayer is that you will also see that God is a good God that loves you and will give you what you need, often when you least expect it. He will do the most amazing and wildly wonderful things that will leave you speechless.

"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."

So good, my friend! This reminds me of Elizabeth George writing her book just after surgery. Perhaps even more amazing things to be birthed during your time of resting and healing? ?
God will use this time in my life in ways that will glorify him. I just have to wait on him as I rest and heal!
Thank you Anne! xo
