The Impact of Written Words
Sandee Macgregor / October 4, 2021
It was left for my eyes only. I curiously fumbled with the envelope to gaze at the typed words. A love letter from my daughter. I hardly made it through the first few lines before it was all a blur. Exquisitely executed and poetic elegance graced the page. The paper became the backdrop for a work of art. No one else will read her words, they were meant for my heart. It could have been spoken out loud, could have been a text or email. It was more than all of those. It was an intentional act of expression to convey what often sitting behind a computer will only allow. Moved to a flow of tears I lay down and reflected on so many moments. It is true that time continues. Our children grow into young adults and forge their own pathways. Sometimes I just want a few more days, weeks or years to gather more memories. This note was more than a gift, it expressed treasured thoughts that will be wrapped in my soul I can recall anytime, always.
More and more I am nudged to write down words to others and let them know what needs to be known. These notes become a way to share important messages needed for a certain moment and particular person.
I was reading on social media a sweet post about a young child writing notes to anyone that may come to the door. What a blessing that would be to someone from amazon or Canada Post! It may seem small, but the impact is huge and often causes a ripple effect beyond and beyond!
We have a love letter, the Bible! Written for us. We have the privilege of opening it daily and being changed and reminded of the love our Father has for us. Do you have a favourite Bible? Do you have a favourite note someone wrote you? Some things are worth keeping in a box to look back on. I have old Bibles I have kept with notes in the margins that bring me back to a day or time that are wonderful and hard to reflect on. I have notes Duncan wrote from years ago that are precious. Notes from my kids, grandparents, parents and friends. They were special then and still are today.
That is where my heart is with the mother-daughter devotional. It includes a journal to switch back and forth to one another and at the end you have a memory to behold with your daughter(s) to look back on. I will be offering free devotionals through this month on giveaways so stay tuned!
A note is always worth the time it takes to write.
A blessing to pass on to someone today.
There is impact in the written word!
“Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
