No matter what we say, there are voices circling through our minds even as this is being read and typed. Voices that are rooted deep from the past, ongoing today and what we perceive we will hear tomorrow. It’s a cycle that unless broken, becomes a soundtrack that can be hauntingly repetitive.

How can we defeat the voices that act as negative, destructive forces toward grace-filled thoughts?

 

“The voice of the Lord is upon the waters;
The God of glory thunders,
The Lord is over many waters.
 The voice of the Lord is powerful,
The voice of the Lord is majestic.”

Psalm 29:3-4

This is what I read today.

I am going through the Psalms again and as always, God speaks clearly through his word and today was no exception. What are the voices in my head causing me to consider? I admit, not always lovely thoughts to lift me up. It is a moment to moment choice to let HIS voice be louder. His voice is powerful and majestic. The God of glory thunders! That means it is loud. Can we hear him? 

I was listening to Ellie Holcomb this morning. Her voice is gorgeous and reminds me of my younger years listening to Amy Grant. Both of these women are so talented and through their music lift the name of Jesus up AND help us to create a new soundtrack in our minds through the gift of biblical lyrics and harmonious melodies. This is one way to defeat the negative voices. Find songs you love and make a playlist for those moments when you need reminding who you are in Christ.
