Quarantine Queasy
Sandee Macgregor / May 28, 2020
It’s that familiar feeling that begins to linger inside and you sense that you are coming down with ‘something’. What unfolds is a long night of sweats and chills, thus stealing a peaceful sleep. We all know what this feels like, and want to desperately usher it out. This lingers today, an overwhelming quarantine queasiness that engulfs our daily health physically and mentally. Have we succumbed to the bedridden hold? Have we fallen into the chills of hopelessness? Recently, phone lines are lit up around the world with panicked voices reaching out for a touchless voice. This voice becomes a cool cloth on the sweaty forehead or a warm comforter to the chilled frame.
A simple phone call can ease the quarantine queasiness.
The simplicity of reaching out this way is making a difference, not only for me but for countless others. Being closed off from people is fundamentally not right. We need contact plain and simple. If that is not possible, then a voice is a beautiful option. It takes but a moment to reach out and place that call. It’s about easing the pain of losing one another to this quarantine and sharing hope! A phone call won’t end the pandemic, but it can be a remedy for an unsettled mind, heart and soul.
The book of Jeremiah is all about a future hope. Jeremiah, God’s chosen prophet to the people of Israel, was locked in prison for attempting to share a word from God to the king. God met him there,
“The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the guard: “Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it—the Lord is his name: Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” Jeremiah 33:1-3
Clearly Jeremiah needed a phone call. While locked away, God met him there and spoke assuring words. We can call on Him now, just at Jeremiah did so long ago. God, the one who made the earth, formed and established it, will answer. Knowing God hears me when I call out gives me great peace when feeling unsettled over these many weeks. God shared assurance with Jeremiah, we can take this example and do this for others!
To learn more about the book of Jeremiah (and the entire Bible) here is a wonderful resource to watch called Read Scripture by BibleProject on youtube https://bibleproject.com/explore/ .
It has been such a blessing for our home. A fantastic visual resource.
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
