Bathed in prayer

Recently, I received a message from a friend about something that has been in her heart for a long time. I don’t believe in coincidences, and I was floored to read her message because the same thing had been happening to me, and we were both wondering what to do. In one of her messages, she said, “I’m going to bathe this in prayer,” and I loved the visual that those words evoked.

It was such a poignant reminder of how important it is to full immerse ourselves in a mindset of humble submission when we pray, giving ourselves over to an all-seeing, all-knowing, all-loving God, knowing and trusting that he love us so much, and he knows what we need before we do.

When I received her message, I had been reflecting on Easter week and the incredible sacrifice of Christ’s death and resurrection, the miracle and the wonder and the beauty of Easter. Her words were perfect and timely confirmation that God is in control! He knows what he’s doing and he hears our prayers and he knows what we need even when we’re feeling that certain prayers are just not being answered. All we need is to look at what he did for us on the cross. He gave his life so that we could be free from the grip of sin and death. I have been so overwhelmed with gratitude for the gift of salvation, and knowing that my eternity is secure.  

On Easter Sunday I was overcome with the goodness of God, as our church shared in the joy of the resurrection of Jesus Christ through music and worship and preaching and teaching. The sermon was powerful, and such a beautiful reminder of what he has done for us. It was also a sobering reminder that there are many who have not yet received Christ, who are lost and lonely. As Christians we are both challenged and blessed to encourage them to get to know him, and figure out who the most influential person in history is. There’s a reason that the Bible is the best-selling book of all time! Why not open it up and get to know what it’s all about?
