Those things
Sandee Macgregor / August 3, 2020
There are places in our kitchens just out of reach and potentially full of forgotten surprises. Every so often do you find yourself reaching toward that cupboard to take hold of ‘those things’ for a party you are hosting? You reach for one of ‘those things’ while balancing on the tips of your toes quickly taking a mental note that clearly this is not working. Next attempt, you have a long kitchen utensil in hand reaching again on the tips of your toes, useless. Determined, out comes the kitchen stool to climb on with utensil in hand reaching again and this time, success. However, ‘those things’ are over-sized and heavy. With the mission almost complete you climb down, grab a friend and repeat. This time ‘those things’ are retrieved and passed to waiting helping hands. Now the party prep begins!
We all have ‘those things’ in our lives whether it be a dream, vision, family matters or career choices that are often just out of reach. It takes an inventive, determined attitude surrounded by helping hands around to share in the over-sized and heavy moments.
I am overwhelmed with gratitude for helping hands that I am blessed to call family and friends. They allow me to reach, fail, reach again and stay beside me through the hills and valleys. I think of my own daughters that surround me with encouraging words, hugs or a hot coffee. These small moments are all apart of helping me navigate the challenges on the horizon. Mothers and daughters have a unique opportunity to be there for one another in many beautiful ways. The Psalm 119 devotional/journal I have written (that is on the way!) is all about connecting with one another on a deeper level that will strengthen your relationship for the times that are over-sized and heavy. This habit of connecting, communicating and praying is a gift to give one another.
Preparing for the Psalm 119 devotional captured my heart and convicted me on many levels. I had to be mindful that the convictions were not leading into condemnation. In Romans 8:1 we are reminded, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” I was convicted to spend more time in the Word and with my own daughters more intentionally.
When you think of that dream or vision ahead, who is surrounding you? We all need helping hands!
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
