Hope
Broken and Unfixable?
Sandee Macgregor / August 19, 2020
My typical morning begins with a coffee. I have certain mugs collected from travels in the past that I enjoy using as it reminds me of a place I’ve been, memories made or the giver of the gift. One particular morning I decided on which mug my delicious, mind-waking coffee would be held. I have favourite spots I enjoy sipping coffee, depending on the season, right now it is outside in a swinging wicker chair. I read, pray, journal and often get a bit distracted with my phone. Amazing how I know that fact and if I don’t leave it charging, something will ding, a reminder shows up, phone rings or I just starting checking social media. Note to self, leave it alone until my quiet time is done. This mug, was actually my favourite one and sadly did not survive the morning routine. It was a slow motion moment. I saw it tip and couldn’t stop the inevitable, broken and unfixable.
Broken and unfixable is where God meets us with the his mercy and grace through scripture, the glue we all need to keep us together.
Lamentations 3:21-24 reminds us, “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
Even through the broken moments the psalmist says, ” The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
My youngest heard it break, helped me clean it up and reminded me it was just a mug. That moment brought my attention to my own brokenness and need of Jesus along with my gratefulness for someone to jolt me to reality.
I have quoted this before, but it needs repeating, “God made it, we broke it, Jesus fixes it.” Michael Williams
Jesus came to restore us, redeem us and lavish us with his love and forgiveness. Like the mug, I may feel broken and unfixable, but Jesus is in the business of growing me, changing me, despite me. He did that on the cross,
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
That is fuel for me today.

"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."

So good. Trusting Him to fix it is everything! I like that quote you mentioned because we seem to break a lot of things in this life, or feel broken ourselves.
Yes we do thankfully he is ‘fixing’ us daily!
