Perfect Attendance

Perfect Attendance
“Here!” Repeats often in my mind when I recall the words ‘roll call.’ Brings me right back to my desk in grade 2 when Mrs. V would stand in front of neatly organized rows of eager students ready to reach for the stars when your name was called. Then the question would linger in our mind as to who would get to take the attendance sheet to the office. The best long walk down a hallway ever. You were chosen, you could look into all the classrooms and see the older students working away on really amazing projects. The artwork that adorned the walls and the signatures at the bottom right corner to stake claim to whom it belonged. It may have taken a full minute, maybe more, but it seemed like an eternity in the hallway alone. Allowed to walk when typically you were not to be walking in the hallway except to use the washroom or gather in line for recess, library visit or fire drills. Just a moment of freedom all brought on by the need for roll call/attendance.
I don’t have perfect attendance. There are the select few that are rewarded in life for perfect attendance at work. This occurs in our family business on an annual basis at the Annual Business Meeting known as the ABM. There are actually employees that receive recognition for 30 plus years of perfect attendance at work. A remarkable feat and clear dedication to the task. This started my mind whirling with my attendance as a mom/parent. I don’t have perfect attendance even if I am physically there, I am not always present and accounted for with my emotional or spiritual call to attend to my place of work as a mom to my children. Is it enough to just wake up and robotically function? There are days that I did just that as a weary stay-at-home, homeschooling mom to 5 children. All with different needs, learning styles, habits, hopes, demands and added activities in life. There are days when you do just that, show up. What would happen if before I put my feet on the floor I would determine to let God take my robotic attendance and turn it into a joyful walk down the hallway to observe all God is doing in my home. Let him give me the attendance sheet, check off who is present in my home and make sure I am first on the list to be checked. Our presence is an offering to our children. Some days that is all your children need to see.
In Joshua 13 there is a story of a barren woman that was promised a boy from the angel of the Lord and she was to name him Samson. She listened, showed up and let God use her to bring forth a plan God had from the beginning of time. Why would he chose her? Amazing that he did and he chose you to encourage the hearts of your children in ways only you can. That is worth waking up for, walking down the hallway and looking for the eager hands ready to reach for the stars.

"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."

Beautiful word pictures that take us down the hall with you. Such a unique analogy I never thought of that has such validity. What a great reminder no matter shattering state in life. Thanks
