Forty

Monday Moments
There is an age that may be significant in your journey, for me it was 40. I remember it well, like it was just months ago. Just before my siblings and I hit the big 4-0 we decided we would begin a journey of celebration 40 days prior to the ‘big’ day. Each family member (including the kids) would write notes and wrap small gifts that would lead up to our birthday. Yes, that’s right we had 40 days of something special to open or read for 40 days! I think it was more fun for the giver! The kids really enjoyed the creative aspect leading up to the big day! Even my sister in the states participated by sending items ahead of time to other family members.
Recently, during this unexpected pandemic, I have taken time to cleanse a few areas of our home that have been waiting for this necessary intervention. I still have a lot more to do of course. Typically, one will find a lot of junk and come across memorable items. That is what happened to me. I found a folder of notes that were written on the 40 day birthday journey. What a gift to uncover and read again. Some people keep nothing and others squirrel away too much. I am kind of in the middle but have been working away at trying to keep less. Some things are worth holding onto and I am glad I kept this folder. As a mom, sometimes we are quick to forget little things that our kids wrote or said. I think it’s important to have a small space to keep special notes given and be reminded of special words written and what the moment meant. I also like to show my kids, it’s fun to see their reaction.
Maybe you have a special family birthday coming up and you could start a similar family tradition. Perhaps the days leading up to their birthday is the age they are turning or maybe you simply have one or two notes given ahead of time? Either way the words written or small gifts wrapped will be special treasures and be another way to remind them they are loved! Have fun with it and get the whole family get creative.

"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
