A daily resolve
Sandee Macgregor / December 31, 2020
Resolutions can seem like giant moguls layering a black diamond ski hill or act like the towering peaks of Mount Everest from base camp. Both of these I will never accomplish nor have any desire! It’s not that there is no adventure in me, I did bungee jump in my early 20’s, that’s another story! It seems almost too much to sit down and create resolutions. I want to make a daily resolve. These are the small choices that have significant daily impact that lead toward weekly, monthly and yearly goals.
If you look up definition of resolve you will find this:
- settle or find a solution to (a problem, dispute, or contentious matter).
- decide firmly on a course of action.
- firm determination to do something.
1 and 2 are action and the 3rd is an more of an idea. If I think of the new year ahead and my own personal goals (that typically carry forward from the previous year) I wand to find solutions, decide on a course of action and determine to do something almost simultaneously! First, I need to daily fix my eyes on Jesus. That means I have to find a solution for time management, decide when, for example, I will spend time in the Word, prayer and journaling and then determine to do it. If I take this course of action for all my small and large goals, on a daily basis I may manage to chip away and make some headway.
I want to be kind to myself, so should you! Resolutions can come barreling down and bury your good intentions. I want to be a better wife and mother. So, daily I will focus on the small choices and look for opportunities to do just that. It’s a moment-to-moment choice and done in bite sizes. It’s even better when there is accountability from friends and family to reach your hopes and plans. Leave room for failure and don’t let that capsize your vessel of intentions. May it be an opportunity to resolve to do something different! For 2021 I have words in my head swirling around along with hopes and plans. The first resolve is to give it all to him, the one that holds me, has a plan for me before I was even a thought.
Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” I do have plans, but I need to daily remind myself that he establishes my steps. That is a great comfort to me as I sit down to reflect on 2020 and plan for 2021.
May God richly bless you as your plans fall into place from your pen and paper to a lived reality.
I would like to share a beautiful story with you about a brave young man and incredible parents that started The Elisha Foundation
They made history by resolving to NOT let anything stop them from accomplishing a unique, never done adventure!
In March of 2013, Eli Reimer and a Team of 8 people spent 15 days on a Himalayan trail to Mount Everest Base Camp and back. Eli made it and in the process became the first American with Down Syndrome to do so. Here is the story and purpose behind his epic adventure. I can’t watch without a tear being shed.
I remember this journey well and we were thrilled to partner with them. We have the same flag as below proudly hanging on a wall and when I look at it am reminded that it was a daily resolve to make this a reality. Eli’s dad (Justin Reimer founder of The Elisha Foundation had these wise words in the midst of their trek,
“We decided that we would treat each day as a summit experience, a summit day for him whether or not he made it to base camp. Each day that he could make it would be a summit for us, that’s our objective.”
I just love how Justin explains a daily outlook for Eli and their team at the time. It makes the goal realistic and attainable.
Here is another video you must see!
A great news coverage to watch!
You will be inspired by Eli and the team GUARENTEED! It will help put into perspective your goals and that each day can be your own ‘summit experience’ even if you don’t make it to your ‘base camp’. Celebrate the process, surround yourself with trustworthy people and make a daily resolve.
Happy New Year!
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
