Be Still
Sandee Macgregor / September 21, 2020
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10)
Gathering my thoughts in the middle of the night after giving birth to my fifth child, I was deeply moved by the concept of stillness. It was just the two of us alone in the room. Typically, you leave within a day or even earlier but I had an unexpected lingering two night stay at hospital. I realized this was a unique gift. I asked my husband to bring my ipod (yes, I said ipod this was back in 2010!) so I could to listen to music. One of the songs was by Steve Curtis Chapman that led me into moments of worship in the song Be Still and Know,
Be still and know that he is God
Be still and know that he is faithful
Consider all that he has done
Stand in awe and be amazed
And know that he will never change
Be still
Be still and know that he is God
Be still and know that he is holy
Be still oh restless soul of mine
Bow before the prince of peace
Let the noise and clamor cease
Be still and know that he is God
Be still and know that he is God
Be still and know that he is God
Be still
Be speechless
Be still and know…

I wrapped Katie in her hospital blanket and freshly washed newborn outfit. I held her while soaking in the Holy Spirit inspired lyrics. It fed my weary soul. I knew that within hours I would be entering a completely different stage of my life. Quietly, the Holy Spirit comforted me during round the clock nursing and diaper changes. It was so unusual I can only give God the glory. I’ll be honest, I was a bit anxious about becoming a mother to five. The idea of attempting the regular routine of school, activities and life overwhelmed me greatly. So this moment gave me the extra surge of strength I needed. Isn’t it so true that just when you feel you have lost your peace, God will in his lavish love shower you with the peace that passes all understanding, ” And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7) As the lyrics say, “Be still oh restless soul” That is what happened for me that night. He was faithful and it left me speechless.
How has God been faithful to you and left you speechless?

"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."

Such a good example of being still. Even through pain and discomfort and nursing a new baby we can find stillness and beautiful peace. Walking in the woods is always my spot to be “still” and know that He is God. He shows me things there and whispers things that leave me speechless and show His faithfulness.
I love that God uses different places to speak to us! It’s all grace!!
