Book Review: Fostered by Tori Hope Petersen
Sandee Macgregor / September 27, 2022
I am both inspired and encouraged that Tori’s voice through Fostered speaks loud and clear for those who can’t speak for themselves. She openly and honestly shares her significant struggles moving from foster home to foster home as a kid, masterfully weaving in the stories of people who made a substantial impact in her life so that she in turn, could make a difference for others. As Tori details her experiences and the tremendous pain inflicted on her by those who were supposed to care for her, the reader experiences various emotions, from anger to turmoil to joy and peace as she triumphantly navigates a path forward. Her journey began with a mom who chose life. Despite the terrible circumstances around her conception, Tori’s mother wanted what was best for her even though throughout her life, her mom was unable to be a safe and consistent parent. But Tori is here today because her mom made an unselfish choice and as a result, Tori has the privilege of sharing Christ and shining for him despite her tumultuous and painful past.
Tori has a unique gift for communicating painfully detailed memories. Despite the darkness in her life, she continuously gives all the glory to God for overcoming all the challenges and obstacles she faced growing up. As she recounted the story of her first group home experience, I was overwhelmed by her ability to overcome her circumstances and learn to be a blessing to others. Instead of anger and rebellion, Tori chose kindness and used her leadership abilities to turn the difficult moments into something special for all those around her. She shares about a time after she left the group home when a girl reached out to her to thank her for the Bible Tori gifted her, reminding her of the verse she wrote inside its cover that was just for her.
Tori’s story deeply moved me. It reminded me to be faithful in all things, and that God can use any circumstance to draw us and others to him. I believe that any discerning reader will be challenged as I was to be inspired by Tori to continue serving, loving, blessing, and making a positive impact in the lives of others. I can’t recommend this book enough. You will be moved, so don’t let it stop there. Be a part of her story too, by reaching into the lives of others who need help, support and encouragement. Like her name, Victoria Hope, this inspiring author has chosen to rise above the challenges she faced and walk in victory to bring hope to others.

I have listened to this song so many times. The lyrics always bless me. I am broken, but God can use broken things; there is hope for all of us. I hope you are blessed by it today!
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
