BOOK REVIEW: THE FIGHT FOR FEMALE BY LISA BEVERE
Sandee Macgregor / February 13, 2025
The term fighter can mean many different things when you hear it, right? But when I hear the term fight, I also think of taking a stand for truth, speaking life, and acknowledging wisdom over foolishness. It doesn’t mean you go in there with your boxing gloves, ready to take somebody down. I think it means that we make wise choices and ask ourselves, which side of truth do we stand?
Lisa Bevere, in her latest book, The Fight for Female, reminds us of the truth that we stand on, which is the Word of God. As women, created in the image of God, we have a responsibility to live out being an image bearer. Lisa‘s book, filled with Scripture, research, and statistics, emphasizes the importance of standing firm on God’s Word. In a world filled with confusion, her book is a beacon of hope and clarity encouraging us not to fear but to hold fast to the Lord and remember to whom we belong! As believers, we are the daughters of the highest king. This is the most important truth that we cannot forget. We, as women, are image-bearers. Don’t let any lie creep in and say you are not worthy; you are! Her book boldly declares God’s intentional creation of male and female made in his image (Genesis 1:26-27) and the reality of our fallen world (Genesis 3). But she does not leave out the hope we have in Jesus! One day, all will be made new (Revelation 21:5) and we can trust God with everything (Proverbs 3:5-6).
I recommend her book and encourage you to read (or listen) and take your time with a Bible and journal to note the passages/verses shared, think through them, and write out your thoughts on the questions at the end of the chapter. At the very end, Lisa shares a powerful prayer to pray. Then, write your own prayer and ask God to guide you toward truth- toward Jesus. This process of prayer and reflection is not just a recommendation, but a vital part of your journey to understanding your identity in Christ. Lay down your burdens at the foot of the cross and seek him. He knows what your needs are and cares about you! Today, as you finish this review, know how loved and valued you are as a woman. God loves you (John 3:16).
Remember, dear friends, that our most important fight is accomplished on our knees—not in angry words, unfiltered verbal garbage, or fear. Prayer first, always! The battle belongs to the Lord.
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
(Matthew 6:5-13)
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
