Dear Daughter

You will walk many paths dear daughter, and by God’s grace, may you keep the company of those you love at your side.
This week my fourth child entered into the teenage years. The words I shared with her come from the many women in my life currently and from the past. The key verse I am drawing from beautifully crafts an image of deep waters the expresses my heart for her,
“The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters,
but one who has insight draws them out.” Proverbs 20:5
My words to her…
Dear Daughter,
You just turned thirteen and we have the blessing as a family to celebrate your life! When you arrived in the wee morning hours (4:58 am), I knew you had a special calling on your life. We share a precious middle name, Glo. It comes from your Grammy (Gloria). She has always been affectionately known as Glo from her loved ones. This name radiates a ‘glow’ that you naturally share with others. You have a tender and sweet way that shines brightly.
This new stage come with the unique anticipation of growing up and becoming. New beginnings, responsibility and growth accompany this moment in time.
In order to fully experience Proverbs 20:5, having others draw out the deep waters of your heart, you must have people around you that can do this with you and for you. I pray you have special people throughout your life that will accompany you during the ups and downs of life. You have wonderful friends, siblings that love you and cousins that are like sisters, such a blessing!
Here are four things I would like to share with you on this special day:
- Let Christ be the first one to have your heart. You did this not long ago by receiving Christ and choosing baptism, what a glorious day that was! Despite the crazy winter storm that morning, we all made it there!
- Seek friends that are trustworthy, truth-seeking, fun-loving, and encouraging.
- Allow family to be your strength and foundation by spending much needed time and energy building upon those God-given relationships. God placed you in our home for a purpose and on purpose. Allow God to use the moments of joy and tough times to shape your character.
- The gifts and passions that God has given you are meant to glorify Him. Allow them to be used for His purposes, one day at a time. Seek opportunities to bless others with what you have been given, watch and see God move in marvelous ways
My dear daughter, you are so deeply loved and cherished. May you walk into this year with a fresh perspective and a passionate purpose. Happy Birthday!
