Book Review, Highlights
Friday Inspiration
Sandee Macgregor / January 29, 2021
When people choose to let you into their lives through words, the end result can be newly inspired knowledge, for good or bad you carry after the last page turns, if you get there! Let’s face it, some books you just have to pass on and others are worth noting and sharing through a lending of the book, a review or adding to your bookshelf to read over again like a C.S Lewis book or, the the most widely known book, the Bible. As I navigate reading through the Bible I am constantly surprised and thankful for what I don’t know and the reality I am always learning something new. Often it is through conversations, for example my sister recently shared a verse from Numbers that I don’t recall reading or applying as she did. I could go back and read and gain new insight! This is community and I am grateful for others speaking words of wisdom into my life. Psalm 119:30 has become a beautiful expression of my heart lately,
“The unfolding of you words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.”
We all have a story and most won’t make it to the best sellers list. The true author of our story is God. Before the world was formed he knew us, wrote our story for his glory. Psalm 139 reminds are simple minds,
“Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
Recently, I have read a variety of books which I have thoroughly enjoyed. Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines and Live in Love by Lauren Akins. Both sharing unique stories that bring the reader to the here and now of their lives. Truly inspiring and beautiful expressions of God’s hand in each journey. Just because your story is not on a best sellers list, you have a purpose and sharing your story can be a life-changing gift for someone else, we all have a story to share.
These two have opened their lives to the willing world unexpectedly and humbly. Both Chip and Joanna bring a fresh, joyful and inspirational take to life using their unique God-given gifts inside and outside of the framework of a home. They truly create spaces that are deeply personal to the owners and are given the utmost of care and attention to detail. Unique in personality, each one offers the best of one another seen on their show. They are who they are, no gimmicks, the real deal. They manage to laugh, share sweet moments as a married couple, those times when you ‘shake your head at your spouse moment’ and allow their children to have privacy and include them at opportune times through the show and photographs in her cookbook. Ok, her cookbooks. Let me be clear, I own a few (or too many my dear husband may say), but these shine. Every single recipe I have tried is a winner. When the family states it is a favourite and to make it again, that is a good sign. Don’t just buy one, get both Magnolia Table Volume 1 and 2. Yes, we have access to the internet for recipes, but personally I love a real book to hold, fold down pages, get messy and keep on my shelf. I highly recommend Magnolia Story and her cookbooks. They bravely share about their past and how they arrived at the Silos in Waco. My husband finished Capital Gaines: Smart Things I Learned Doing Stupid Stuff by Chip over the holidays and also highly recommends this book. I think we all could learn from our mistakes as Chip candidly shares! Their story is worth knowing and as much as I want to keep this book, sharing it makes more sense to bless someone else, any takers! Love to share a fantastic book.
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
