Fully Aware
Sandee Macgregor / August 21, 2021
Fully Aware
The rolling in of the emotional waves
Pressing in on the shorelines of my mind
Draw me closer to my anchor,
You.
If I do not relax the hold on the unpredictable waves
Under I will cascade
Overwhelmed I will fade.
Strength in the choice
Purpose in the call
Passion in the plea
Presented, Lord to you.
I stand in need
Wave upon wave,
Grace upon grace,
You hold me
Revealing your will
As I press into you.
Fully aware of my desperate need.

In Psalm 119:9-16, the psalmist openly shares an awareness of a spiritual need, asking questions and actively pursuing God fully aware,
“How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to your word.
10 I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
12 Praise be to you, Lord;
teach me your decrees.
13 With my lips I recount
all the laws that come from your mouth.
14 I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches.
15 I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.
16 I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.”
The psalmist asks, seeks, hides the word in his heart, praises, rejoices, meditates and delights.
This is a fruitful example of how to be fully aware of our need and leaning into God on a daily basis. This reminder is all through the stanzas of psalm 119, the longest prayer in the Bible. As I was preparing the devotional for mothers and daughters, I leave a suggestion near the end of the devo to write your own, ‘longest prayer’. Something I have attempted to do in small ways over time in my journal. I don’t know if the prayer will ever be done! It’s like a continued conversation with the God of the universe who is always listening.

"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
