Hannah’s Hope
Sandee Macgregor / October 20, 2020
Reading out loud or listening to audio books have been infused in our routine for many years. There is something magical about listening to someone read about a hero from the past, a fantasy novel or simply a hilarious children’s book and playing double deck blackjack online. Years ago I had the opportunity to attend a performance by a choir from MCF that was close to our city, It was unreal and moving. Hannah’s Hope was the novel that began our year. Here is what Katie (my 9 yr old) said, ” This is a story about a man that was left alone as a child and grew up poor and later sold all he had and started an orphanage. Hannah was an orphan and needed a home. Her uncle brought her to Mulli Children’s Family with her sister and it changed her life. When Hannah went on her first mission trip, she was turned down a lot but was thankful for the opportunity to share the gospel whenever she could. It’s an inspiring story that shows you to not take what you have for granted, there are people suffering far worse than you.”
What Sara (our 13 yrs old) said, “MCF is a special place that provides orphaned children a home, food, shelter and family. We listened to a story about a girl named Hannah that had lost all hope. Charles and Esther Mulli brought her into the home and her life was forever changed.”
When we closed the book this morning, Katie said that she was sad that it was over. She loved learning about MCF and the story of Hannah. It is a remarkable story and beautifully written. Paul H. Boge allows the reader to actively engage in the daily lives of Hannah and what the other 499 children (yes, I said 499) experience daily at MCF. Years of faithful prayer and dedicated service from the Mulli family and entire staff are truly remarkable. Just before we finished the last few chapters we watched the Mulli Movie together and that was a fantastic way to bring the novel to life! I encourage you to bring this incredible story into your home for your family through this book and the movie. It will rock your world, in a good way! Here is a link for more about the Mulli family from years ago (2009), Father to the Fatherless: The Story of Mulli Children’s Family on 100 Huntley Street (part 1 and 2).
We don’t have to stay literally locked up during covid, we can expand our hearts and minds through inspirational books and movies that will move you and change your heart, it has done that for our family.

"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
