Kitchen Sink for the Soul
Sandee Macgregor / May 19, 2022
I have what I call kitchen sink shenanigans or kitchen sink for the soul moments with my two older sisters. Our conversations revolve around our daily lives through Facetime and Marco Polo often right by the sink. Sometimes it’s on the move between dropping off or picking up kids or errands. We share words of hope, joy, sadness, fear, unknowns, laughter and tears. In between the dirty dishes, the wisdom so desperately needed cleans our muddied souls. The leftovers hardened to the sides of our hearts soften with the Scripture shared from his perfect Word. These are the moments I am renewed and refreshed. Oh, there are times it is pure shenanigans. Often the laughter continues long after the kitchen sink conversations. This beautiful way of connecting is life-giving and spurs me toward the unknowns of the day. Even if they are not available, I record a message and know full well they will watch and either laugh, cry, pray or all of it! I count on them, they count on me. This is the gift of family and community.
If you have a kitchen sink and a phone, who can you call for kitchen sink for the soul moments?
We need one another. Life alone is barren and desolate and leaves us weary. Without others speaking into our lives how can we grow? Without others holding us accountable, how can we be aware of sin that entangles that simply we may not see? Without others how can we shoulder burdens, and be the hands and feet of Christ? Kitchen sinks are messy. So are relationships! So are we! But grace! But let us not forget where grace is truly found,
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrew 4:16
As we draw near to God, we find mercy and grace in our times of need. The more we practice this, we are able to freely share mercy and grace with others because of what Christ did for us on the cross,
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
Isn’t it so true that our sinks become a place of fellowship! When I have others over, we more often than not find ourselves in the kitchen sharing our hearts over a tea, coffee or a meal.
Let your dishes be a centrepiece for friendship, no matter how high the pile or messy! Invite others in. It is during these conversations when we get right into the suds and dirt, we find pure joy!
Enjoy these songs that point us to HIM!
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
