Seasons of Motherhood welcomes Kellie Haddock to the blog!

Sandee Macgregor / June 23, 2021

Social media is a unique space that can be used to bless, encourage, reflect and learn. Recently, I have been wonderfully blessed through social media platforms and met some fantastic mothers. Kellie Haddock is one of these incredible women. Kellie is a wife, mother, gifted songwriter, singer, performer, writer, encourager and joyful woman of God. She has a grace-filled story that will recharge your soul with a sweeping surge of hope. We have not met and it may be a while before we do.  Until then, I will look to her gracious words that flow on her blog and social media, listen to her music to lift my spirits and look forward to interacting when we can (in person!). It is a joy to welcome Kellie Haddock to Sovereign Radiance today.  As you navigate this post, please grab a tissue as you watch The Thank You Project.   Her desire to share her gratitude is felt in the soul. Add her to your playlist!! I know her music and lyrics will bless you in countless ways. Thank you Kellie, for sharing words of wisdom today! I am blessed by you and full of heartfelt thanks for your contribution to the blog

Here is the link to our recent interview on my youtube channel! What a joy to spend time with Kellie!

KELLIE’S BIO

Kellie is a singer, songwriter, wife and mom. A former widow, Kellie has lived through tragedy and found hope and joy on the other side. Her music draws from real-life stories of beauty, heartache, hope and the celebration of life.

The Thank You Project, a short film featuring Kellie’s story of gratitude after tragedy, has attracted more than 150 million views and has been featured on The TODAY Show, The Huffington Post, and Cosmopolitan among other national and international media outlets.

Kellie has performed in Iraq, Israel, China and across the U.S., – in stadiums for up to 10,000 – in people’s homes and everything in between – offering music that engages the soul in all of its beauty and vulnerability. She has sung and spoken alongside Tim Keller, Christine Caine, Marianne Williamson, Andrew Peterson and Lynne Hybels among other respected leaders and musicians.

Kellie released Leave The Light On (featuring Sara Groves) in 2013 and Mandarin Lights (recorded in Mandarin) in 2014. Her work is featured in Together In The Harvest: A Nashville A ROCHA Project and on Sandra McCracken’s Psalms album, which went to No. 1 on iTunes. Wild Love, (2017) offers 12 piano driven songs that blend powerful, energetic pop with highly emotive lyrics, produced by Michael Rossback and features musicians Steve Goold (Sara Bareilles) and John Arndt (The Brilliance).

All Shall Be Well, (2018) offers a refreshing splash of 25 classic hymns featuring sweet layers of ukulele and vocals. She’s also created a hymn songbook arranged for ukulele and voice as the perfect companion to the album. Grab your ukulele to play and sing right along with the music!

Peace On Earth, Kellie’s debut Christmas album speaks right to the heart of our struggles. This music is infused with hope and longing to help bring peace on earth and to every heart that hears it.

Kellie’s music is a reminder that no matter what life brings, love will have the last word.

It’s not about what you can’t do, it’s about what you can do.

Life is full of can-nots and do-nots. Motherhood is full of can-nots and do-nots. This can feel paralyzing and overwhelming.

Is there another way?

16 years ago my husband, baby boy and I were in a horrific car accident. My husband was killed instantly. Our 3-month baby and I were life-flighted to the hospital where our son fought for his life. (I miraculously had no major injuries except for a severely broken heart.)

Our son had a traumatic brain injury, multiple strokes and seizures that were causing him to flatline. It was touch and go for him. The doctors told me that if he survived he’d likely never walk or talk or show emotion. (They told me what he could not do).

God did an incredible miracle in our son Eli, you can read more of his story here…

After experiencing such a powerful and dramatic healing, I thought my son would be like any other ‘typical’ child. So as the months went on, while he grew, so did his special needs, and I was very confused.

Why would God heal him, but only part way?

I was angry and frustrated… with God… with life… as a mom…

Eli was in therapy almost full time in those early years. He had so many skilled, talented and well-meaning adults trying to help him. But the focus was always on what he couldn’t do.

Disappointment and ‘cannot’ was the overarching theme that permeated our days.

I grew bitter. I was a young widow and single mom of a child with special needs. I was trying to do it all on my own. I felt like my only option was to be a super-woman, but my cape was completely tattered and worn out. I had no strength left and I was exhausted.

I barely prayed anymore… it didn’t seem to matter or help…

I remember being at church one Sunday when a well-intended person asked me how Eli was. I said, (to their wide-eyed shock) that I wanted to write a parenting book that said, “Parenting is HARD. The end.” I then scooped up Eli and stormed out of church, crying a desperate burst of a ‘help me’ prayer to God.

The Holy Spirit met me that day through my tears and exhaustion. He told me to stop focusing on what Eli couldn’t do and what isn’t, but instead to focus on what IS and what he can do. The Holy Spirit showed me that He did fully heal Eli in exactly the ways he needed. He assured me that his injuries and special needs would not hinder Eli from anything he’s called and created to do.

Once the Holy Spirit gave me this perspective shift, everything changed for me as a mom. Instead of being disappointed and frustrated by what Eli wasn’t, I began to celebrate what he was – a miracle! I began to focus on all the things he COULD do and as I did, gratitude began to flow.

In time and healing this gratitude led me to want to go back and find all the medical heroes who helped save Eli’s life and thank them. We spent 6 months working on this project, the hospital found out what we were doing and offered to help (and film it). Then the Today Show picked up our story and aired it on Thanksgiving morning minutes before the Macy’s Day parade (their biggest viewership of the year).

Our Thank You Project has led to so much more healing on such a large scale. More than I EVER could have imagined possible. But that’s our God. He’s not a God of can-nots and do-nots, He’s a God that makes the impossible possible! (You can watch The Thank You Project here.)

The enemy wants to steal, kill and destroy. He wants to rob us of our joy. He wants us to think we have no power when hard things happen. But this is a lie and we must see it as so. You are not powerless over your response to life and the challenges that come your way. You ALWAYS have a choice.

“Many others have faced exactly the same problems before you. And no temptation is irresistible. You can trust God to keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it, for he has promised this and will do what he says. He will show you how to escape temptation’s power so that you can bear up patiently against it.” (1 Cor 10:13 TLB)

So often a perspective shift is what we need to experience freedom and healing. Like a ship, the tiniest shift in the rudder effects the entire trajectory of the ship’s course. So it is with our perspective. Will we let the Holy Spirit shape us, our hearts, our ability to hope?

When we are regularly spending time with the Living God (and listening!) we can begin to see the reality with which He sees; His eternal perspective is the trajectory that sets us on a path towards freedom, hope and healing.

Hope is ALWAYS an option. You have already been given the power to choose to hope. And you have already been given more than enough cause for hope.

Can you see it?

It’s more than an emotion.

Hope is an action. It’s something you do. It’s a response. It’s a weapon to combat the enemy’s arrows that say you can’t, that say your children can’t, that say it will never happen, that seek to steal, kill and destroy.

Choose today who you will serve and who you will listen to. Choose today what perspective you will live through.

This choice effects how you parent and how you love. It effects everything.

Hope is here for you today, right now.

Shows how God is at work in Kelly in that she responded to you todo an interview. She represents the reminder it IS what God CAN do not what we can’t and she’s showing it by example. So encouraging for us no matter what space we’re in. May He bless and encourage you in the limitations you feel today-HE’S not limited PTL 😘
