Seasons of Motherhood with Erin Davis
Sandee Macgregor / September 11, 2023
Revive Our Hearts ministry has been a significant blessing for me. Through their various resources (podcasts, books, True Girl and more), I have grown and been challenged in my faith. Erin is the content director with ROH, and due to this connection to ROH, I ‘met’ her through these interviews and podcasts. I am so grateful for her ministry, heart for the Lord, and the encouragement she provided for countless women beautifully and intentionally. Through social media, I recently read a post she wrote about marriage. It was so meaningful to me that I just knew I had to reach out and invite her to share the wisdom she learned in her 22 years of marriage. I am honoured to share this on the blog today. I know you will be immensely blessed and challenged. It’s an ‘iron sharpens iron’ (Proverbs 27:17) moment for anyone reading this, married or not! The heart behind her words reflects Christ sharpening her personally and their marriage. Our interview will be posted soon, so stay tuned for our conversation! Welcome to the Seasons of Motherhood series, Erin!
Erin Davis. Erin is a writer and teacher passionately committed to getting women of all ages to the deep well of God’s Word. She is the author of over a dozen books and Bible studies, including Connected, 7 Feasts, and Fasting & Feasting. Erin serves as the content director for Revive Our Hearts and hosts the Women of the Bible podcast and Grounded videocast. Hear her teach on The Deep Well with Erin Davis podcast. When she’s not writing, you can find Erin chasing chickens and children on her small farm in the Midwest.
Of all the ways God has used me as an instrument to push back against the darkness, loving one man for a lifetime has been the most potent.
Making a commitment when you’re young and keeping it when you’re old matters.
Saying “I’m sorry” often and “I forgive you” freely matters.
Reaching for each other in the middle of the night matters.
Raising children together matters.
Playing board games with friends matters.
Bringing puke bowls and fresh towels to each other matters.
Sitting side-by-side in the same church for more than a decade matters.
Fighting matters. Making up matters.
Making his favourite dinner matters.
Helping each other bury grandparents and then parents matters.
Saying, “You don’t seem like yourself matters.”
Praying together matters.
Honouring the marriage bed and keeping it pure matters.
Seeing your selfishness exposed matters.
Surrendering your desires for the good of another matters.
Saying “we” more than “I” matters.
Smooching in the kitchen matters.
Seeing each other at our worst and bringing out the best matters.
Faithfulness matters.
One man plus one woman (and a house full of kids) may not be unusual, but for Christians it is supernatural. Our marriage has brought healing. It has borne children. It has shaken loose my selfishness and forced me to face my sin. It is the battering ram God uses to push down the forces of hell in our lives and bear witness to the union with Christ that is to come.
Twenty-two years with Jason Davis, and it’s been more than I knew to hope for.
“Therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother, and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.
Ephesians 5:31-32
“Younglings, back in 2001 you had to take photos with an actual camera, get them developed, and more them from house to house for 22 years. They get a little wrinkled but honey, so have we” – Erin Davis

"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
