Someone Like You
Movie Review
This movie is based on the novel by #1 NY Times Bestselling author Karen Kingsbury. I may have shed a few tears while absorbing the hidden truths discovered in the movie. My compassion for all of the characters was profound. There are so many layers of pain cultivated within the souls of the mothers, fathers, daughters, sisters, and a key romantic relationship—the movie’s highlight in many ways!
Karen Kingsbury masterfully created family bonds that walked through unexpected pain. Many viewers will watch and relate on many levels. Grief, lies, betrayal, unexpected romance, and forgiveness guide this powerful movie. You can agree with the choices made or be against them, but you won’t be able to deny the love between the characters.
Beautiful scenery, believable characters, well-chosen music and dialogue that matter make this film a winner. The movie reminds us we are finite beings with an infinite God. He knows our path, and as a sovereign, mighty, powerful, loving God, he will never leave or forsake us. This movie leaves you emotionally tender and maybe even questioning the characters’ choices. IVF and embryo adoption are very personal for many, and this movie underscores healing, grace, love, and the importance of family. But ultimately, you decide. It is rated PG, so as a parent, you have to determine if you want your children under 13 to watch. I believe movies are a great way to discuss challenging topics from a biblical perspective. The home is the best place to have safe discussions. I recommend this movie! Just grab some Kleenex, and after watching, you might want to take up jet skiing and move to a lake – or at least enjoy time near water!
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
