Start Slow and Show Up

Sandee Macgregor / October 15, 2025

Have you noticed lately anxiety has spiked, people feel rattled, and their fears have been tapped into like never before? Have you felt that too? What I’ve also seen is an abundance of courage, tenacity, and zeal that has stirred them to stand firm on the solid rock, our Heavenly Father, and many are heading to church for the first time. Strongholds are broken, and lives are being changed!
There’s a lot of talk about what we’re seeing is a revival or something that will actually stick. But one thing is certain-God is moving. He is always good, merciful, loving, and kind. If your soul is being stirred to investigate who this God is, don’t sit back and wait.

Start slow and show up.

What does that mean? ‘Starting slow’ means taking small, manageable steps towards deepening your faith. One day at a time, you can’t begin to discover everything in one day about one subject! It means you investigate local churches, buy a Bible and a journal, look into joining a group at the church, and explore ways to start. It simply means saying yes and being faithful to what is stirring within you. God knows what he’s doing, and everything he does is perfect. Talk to the Lord in prayer and ask him to guide you!

What do I mean by show up? Perhaps you start by watching church online, but try not to get too comfortable wrapped in that blanket on the couch. At some point, you need to show up in person! And that takes courage. You may not know anyone, but when you’re attending a church rooted in the Word of God and unapologetically stands firm on the foundation of Jesus Christ, you will meet people from the moment you walk in the door that will gladly greet you and point you to where to go and likely even provide a Bible for you for free! Say, “I am new here.” And that’s it! Even at our women’s event last week, it was the kickoff; they had women standing at the back to meet you if you were new, to introduce you to other people, so you’re instantly connected and reminded that you are not alone. That is a gift. I met a lady recently who had never been to our church. She decided to make a leap of faith and show up! Remember, imperfect people sit in the church pews; the only perfect One is Jesus!

Even if you’ve been attending church for most of your life, you still need to have that mentality of starting somewhere and showing up! Doing something new is never easy, but every time we do, we let God shine through our weaknesses and our faithful ‘yes’. How can you start slow and show up today? I am praying for you as you start slow and show up – this is a post for me too. We all need to rest in God’s plan and trust him for our next steps. He is our all in all!

"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
