The Reality of New
Sandee Macgregor / September 1, 2021
How come the fresh, crisp air in September always bring such joy?
It’s the reality of new.
New school
New courses
New teachers and professors
New dance classes, sports and the arts
New, New, New!
It’s an opportunity to open the new binder with nothing on it, a clean slate.
We get to begin again. This reality brings me joy. I admit I do lament the colder weather almost the moment September rolls in. I know the cold, sleet, snow and ice will become a bit of an enemy! It’s true, snow does not always make me leap for joy. It’s just reality that filling up the gas tank and the freezing cold winds will almost paralyze me. My kids know well that this is one of my least favourite winter moments. I am sure you have one too!
So, I hold onto summer and look ahead to the new opportunities that will unfold.
Grade 9.
Does that make you shudder? Maybe it was a stellar year? For most it is a year of heightened newness that is not classified as fun! Coming out of grade 8 ushers you into a world of the unknown very quickly. Many are not in favour of uniforms, but I am pleased that for our kids (now our fourth entering grade nine at the local Christian school) has one less ‘thing’ to worry about, clothing. I recall taking far too long to consider my outfits and it at times was consuming. I have seen the other three appreciate the moment they arrive home to relax into chosen comfy clothes and wind down from a busy day work well. So, we now add a fourth child to the attendance list of grade nine. Aware of the opportunity and uncertainties, my fourth dear one will manage and manage well. I see her quietly walking in with nervous swirling thoughts only to find good company, she will because she is determined to.
I am wildly aware of the newness of this season. One working (debating future courses), one in third year Criminology, one first year sociology, one entering the hallways of choices and growth, the youngest will remain with me taking on the world of grade 6 – bring it on! I am excited to enter into a new season (AGAIN) as that never ends and walk through this new year with hope, joy and much prayer for all of my kids (and me…).
The reality of new never changes and if I think to myself that all will remain static maybe I should go back to grade 9!!! I have to choose to embrace each new phase and wonder expectantly how God will meet all my needs and what God will do through it all.
The reality of new is in your life too. It may be an empty nest or a newborn in your arms. God has you right where he wants you to be and will supply all your needs.
Reality is new for us, but not to God. Amen!
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus”
Philippians 4:19.
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
