Where you hang your hat
Sandee Macgregor / July 31, 2021
It’s the comment someone made that lingers in your mind almost taunting you and can’t put it to rest. It could be an affirmation that lifted your spirits or the opposite, a sort of tearing down and it hurts. We have all been on either side of the counter. Dishing out words hot and ready to be served with a slice a revenge, receiving the dirty dish of comments or the five star meal of compliments fit for a queen, and you hang your hat on that. Lately, I have been thinking about how God has been working on me and where I ‘hang my hat’.
Sometimes it has been in the waiting and lingering for what I long to hear or know. Other moments are words quickly hidden away under the counters of my heart. I admit, I have let it control me too much. I hang my hat on the words of others I have heard many times (or hope to hear) and cancel out the rock solid truth God has spoken through his Word.
Psalm 18:2 is a blessed reminder today,
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
It is a habit worthy of practicing to daily to run back to a verse like this and know that he is my rock, fortress, deliverer, refuge, shield and stronghold! Anything that is said to me or whatever I feel I need to hear pales in comparison to his promises. If I replace in this verse anyone else, for example, ‘the world is my rock, my fortress and deliverer…’ I will never be satisfied and always craving more. As the psalmist says, “
“Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.”
(Psalm 107:8-9)
He satisfies my thirst
He fills me with good things.
When I remember this I am able to handle what I want to hear, what others say and what I do with it! Where do you ‘hang your hat?’
Today, meet Darren and Heidi from We Are Messengers and listen to their story of hope. I can’t get enough of hearing how God moves! Blessings to you as you listen in to their story and songs!

Come What May – We are Messengers
Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
We Are Messengers “God With Us” Acoustic
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
