Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Sandee Macgregor / August 16, 2021
Yesterday, I made mistakes
Today, I am making more
Tomorrow, I will do it again.
Hopeless? If I chose to stay there. My inability is exactly where God meets me today, “Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:14-16 ESV).
My favourite phrase, “…draw near to the throne of grace…” It jumped out of the Bible and into my heart today in a new and refreshing way. So, the writer of Hebrews intentionally calls us into the best place to be in our times of weakness, ” Let us then with confidence draw near…”
If I hold onto past mistakes, I am not going to the throne of grace with confidence.
If I walk in my current patterns and choices and choose to ignore my need to confess sin, I won’t acknowledging that, “…we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin” (v.15).
If I believe I am stuck and unworthy of receiving mercy and grace, I will be missing out, “..that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in times of need” (v. 16).
At the beginning of Hebrews we read the most encouraging verses,
“He also says,
“In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
You will roll them up like a robe;
like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same,
and your years will never end.”
Hebrews 1:10-12
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”
(Hebrews 13:8)
I will fall and make mistakes, BUT I don’t want to stay caught in a snare of tangled weeds that lie to me saying I am unworthy of drawing near to the throne of grace when I am in need. It’s a daily place to begin and reflect saying, Lord I need you. This Monday morning turn on this song by Matt Maher.

Matt Maher – Lord, I Need You (Official Lyric Video)
"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
